Going green in your classroom

by Brittany Berry
(Eutawville South Carolina, USA)

Instead of replacing your posters with new ones every year reuse them. For class projects such as using bottles or whatever recycle the leftovers. Once a week have your class go outside the school and pick up trash. Have your class write scratch work on little dry erase boards other than using up so much paper. Turn off your computer and lights whenever your class is doing classwork when your not using your computer but open the blinds and windows for some light. Put a recycling trash can in your classroom and dump it in a trash bag when it gets full and take it to the recylcling place every 2 weeks. Whenever you can improvise worksheets with whatever you possibly can and get your class motivated to reduce, reuse, recycle and get them to do this at home. During lunch a couple days a week gather all cans, bottles, all recycling items and take them to the recycling place also. Maybe every 2 months have your class plant at least 3 trees on the school ground.
